Advanced Lightning Technology Inc. introduced the AGE Grounding System which provides earth grounding when a low-resistance ground is required, such as around cellular towers. The system works by conditioning the soil with environmentally safe chemicals that absorb moisture from the air and seep into the ground, reducing resistance. Metawave Communications Corp. said its Code Division Multiple Access smart antenna system, the SpotLight 2000, showed a 50-percent capacity increase at a cell site in Phoenix, outperforming the company’s own projections. Simulations conducted before the first field deployments of the system suggested it could provide CDMA capacity increases of up to 40 percent. The capacity gains in the Phoenix deployment topped initial estimates by 25 percent, although achievable capacity gains vary by cell site, said the company.
