Harris

Harris Corp. named its current Communications Sector President, E. Van Cullens, president and chief operating officer of the company, effective July 1. He will be responsible for overseeing the business operations for Harris’ six divisions. Cullens joined Harris as communications sector president in 1997, and prior to that, held senior management positions at Siemens, including senior vice president and head of the global Internet solutions business.

IFR Systems

IFR Systems Inc.’s President and Chief Executive Officer Alfred H. Hunt III relinquished his positions to become chairman of the board of directors and chief technology officer, a new position at IFR. Iain M. Robertson, general manager of IFR’s Electronic Test and Measurement division, was named the new president and CEO and has been elected the seventh member of the board of directors. IFR named Jeffrey A. Bloomer, its treasurer and chief financial officer, to the additional position of executive vice president.

K&L Microwave

K&L Microwave appointed Lou Abbagnaro its new president. Most recently, Abbagnaro was president of Pace Inc. and he worked 16 years at CBS Inc.

V-Comm

Donald S. Coover was promoted to director of engineering at V-Comm L.L.C. He will be responsible for creating and managing the expanded products and services offered by V-Comm’s Network Services Group.

AirNet

AirNet Communications Corp. announced Dr. Lee Hamilton has been elected chief executive officer. In addition to his new duties, Hamilton will retain his position and responsibilities as AirNet’s president.

CTIA

The Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association said Martha V. Carucci joined the congressional affairs staff as the new director of congressional affairs for the U.S. House of Representatives. She joins CTIA from Nortel Networks, where she served as manager of government relations and telecommunications policy.

LHS

LHS Communication Systems Inc., a subsidiary of LHS Group Inc., appointed Nelson Campelo vice president of sales and integrations and delegate manager of LHS do Brazil Ltda. Campelo will be responsible for LHS’ activities in the Brazilian market. He joined LHS from SAP, where he was director of utilities for the company’s Brazilian business unit and prior to that, he worked for IBM Corp. for 11 years.

Pathnet

Pathnet Inc. promoted William R. Smedberg V to executive vice president of corporate development. Smedberg joined the company as vice president of finance and corporate development in 1997. In his new role, Smedberg will focus on implementing Pathnet’s strategy to integrate fiber optics into its nationwide digital network. The company also appointed James M. Craig to executive vice president and chief financial officer. Craig previously worked for Omnipoint Corp. and MCI Communications Corp. in senior financial positions.

ASC

ASC Inc. announced James Foley joined the firm as chief operating officer. Foley previously served as vice president of sales for the cellular infrastructure division of Alcatel Inc. Foley possesses 16 years experience in the telecommunications industry and is a founding member of the Iridium project team.

Ritron

Jack Pelzman joined Ritron Inc. as the marketing communications manager, a newly created position. Pelzman’s responsibilities include overseeing domestic advertising, media relations, collateral material development, sales promotions and public relations. Prior to joining Ritron, Pelzman served in similar capacities for Yaesu U.S.A. and NEC America, mobile radio division.

The NLS Group

The NLS Group appointed Richard Pasciuto build-to-suit manager, where he will manage the NLS Tower Build-to-Suit program, including the development of strategic tower sites nationwide.

Rural Cellular Corp.

Tom McLaughlin is now vice president of operations for Rural Cellular Corp.’s Atlantic operation-Cellular One in Colchester, Vt. He will be responsible for managing the senior management team and all daily operations. Prior to joining RCC as its acting vice president of operations, he held the position of vice president and general manager at Atlantic Cellular Co.

WirelessNorth

WirelessNorth hired Peter L. Thorpe as its new general manager of field operations. Thorpe will implement new sites and ensure quality with the company’s field operations. He previously was director of engineering for American Cellular Wireless and has worked for ADC Telecommunications, Nortel Networks and U*S*West Communications Corp.
