RCC REPORTS REVENUE GROWTH, NET LOSS

ALEXANDRIA, Minn.-Rural Cellular Corp. reported revenues for the first quarter ended March 31 of $32.3 million, an increase of 117 percent from the $14.8 million reported for the same time the previous year.

The company experienced a net loss of $5.4 million, or 60 cents per basic share, compared with a net loss of $2 million, or 23 cents per basic share, for first-quarter 1998.

“Every business unit is making solid progress toward its financial goals,” said Richard P. Ekstrand, president and RCC chief executive officer. “The full integration of RCC Atlantic, our newest New England cellular operation, has proceeded in a very timely and efficient manner.”

As of March 31, RCC’s total wireless customers-including paging-came to 223,400, an increase of 95 percent from 114,300 at the end of first-quarter 1998.
