Clariti Wireless Messaging, a division of Clariti Telecommunications International, announced it signed a memorandum of understanding with Acme Paging, one of the largest paging providers in Latin America. Under terms of the MoU, Acme Paging will sell Clariti’s digital voice pagers and wireless voice messaging services in Brazil through an Acme subsidiary that operates under the Conectel brand name. This marks the first distribution agreement Clariti has signed for its ClariCAST digital wireless messaging system.
Canada
Cell-Loc announced it has installed and tested the first phase of development for the Cellocate System for personal communications services Code Division Multiple Access technology. Cell-Loc, a developer of wireless location products that enable wireless carriers to offer location services to their customers, said its Cellocate System for Advanced Mobile Phone Service technology already was installed in the test area and was upgraded with the addition of a CDMA module. “One of the most significant advantages of our digital version is that it addresses the issue of CDMA power control, which is a known area of concern with CDMA location,” said Michel Fattouche, company co-founder and president.
Croatia
VIP-Net, a Croatian wireless operator, has chosen Ericsson Inc. to deliver the base station subsystem for its new nationwide Global System for Mobile communications network. The subsystem is to include macro and micro base station solutions from Ericsson’s RBS 2000 series, software and implementation and support services, said Ericsson. The new system, Croatia’s second GSM network, is scheduled to begin commercial operation in early July.
Taiwan
Lucent Technologies Inc. received a $150 million contract from Taiwan’s KG Telecom to expand KG Telecom’s Global System for Mobile communications network. Lucent will supply and install its latest mobile switching centers, base stations and controllers and micro cells. Lucent also plans to provide software-based network operation and management systems.
