FRANKLIN, Tenn.-Having survived a March 6 car crash that nearly killed him, country singer George Jones pleaded guilty to driving while impaired and having an open container in his vehicle.
The guilty plea emerged amid speculation and accusations that Jones crashed his Lexus sport utility vehicle into a bridge abutment because he was distracted by a cellular phone call he was conducting at the time.
Jones will have to pay $550 in fines plus court costs and a reckless driving charge will be dropped after he completes an in-patient alcohol treatment program.
