MONTREAL-Dolphin Telecom plc said it completed the first trans-Atlantic third-generation wireless call using a wideband-Code Division Multiple Access network in Canada and Dolphin’s Trans European Trunked Radio network in the United Kingdom.
Sven Borgstrom, chief technology officer of Telesystem International Wireless Inc., Dolphin’s parent company, placed the call from Montreal to Ted Beddoes, chief executive officer of Dolphin, in Basingstoke, U.K.
Based on the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System technology, the 3G trial network is being used to test next-generation voice and high-speed wireless data service under a developmental radio license from Industry Canada, said Dolphin.
