MAP PRODUCTS UNVEILED AT SUPERCOMM

ATLANTA-Two companies last week introduced mapping products designed to give carriers the ability to view the physical layout of their networks on maps and as a result improve service quality and reduce churn.

Smallworld Systems

Smallworld Systems Inc., which develops software products that model real-world assets and services, introduced Smallworld Communications, a set of applications designed to support all of a telecommunications company’s business processes. The software is based on two core modules-Model.it, which allows telecom companies to develop a model of their physical network from switch to customer, and Circ.it, which allows them to assign circuits, allocate bandwidth and plan capacity to improve network use and reduce time to market for value-added services, said the company.

“If telecommunications operators do not link spatial information relating to customers, networks, planning and engineering work in progress to other enterprise systems, they risk taking too long when making business critical decisions based on incomplete data, or on spending too long to find the right information,” said Andy Stafford, Smallworld’s chief executive officer.

MapInfo

MapInfo Corp. introduced its Coverage Locator spatial Internet solution designed to improve operational efficiencies and streamline core business processes by delivering accurate information to customer service representatives and to customers via the Web.

The product allows CSRs and customers to obtain information about coverage, investigate service problems or find the nearest store or service center. Wireless carriers also can use the product to aid in predicting where demand for coverage is likely to occur, said Scott Petronis, MapInfo’s telecom program manager.
