NEW YORK-Millicom International Cellular S.A. announced it added 163,879 net new subscribers in the second quarter.
As of June 30, MIC’s worldwide cellular subscriber base increased 72 percent to approximately 1.7 million subscribers from the 1 million reported at the same time last year.
Societe Europeenne de Communication, the joint venture presently 35-percent owned by MIC, reported a total of about 1.6 million fixed-line customers, representing an increase of 53 percent from the 1.04 million customers announced March 31, and a 110-percent increase from the 756,000 customers reported in December of 1998.
