ATLANTA-BellSouth Corp. reported revenues for the second quarter ended June 30 of $6.15 billion, an 8.5-percent increase from the $5.66 billion reported for second-quarter 1998.
The company recorded net earnings of $980 million, or 52 cents per basic share, compared with net earnings of $818 million, or 41 cents per basic share, for the same time the previous year.
BellSouth also said its digital and data services revenues increased from $465 million to $615 million for the quarter, and its domestic wireless revenues increased 18.5 percent from $672 million to $796 million. The number of U.S. wireless customers grew 17.8 percent, reaching 5.2 million by June 30, said BellSouth.
