FORT WORTH, Texas-Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems and AlliedSignal said they entered into a cooperative agreement to test the effectiveness of using a two-way communications system-based on Iridium L.L.C.’s satellite network-on F-16 fighter planes.
In the first trial of its kind for both Iridium and the U.S. Air Force, planes will be equipped with an AlliedSignal AIRSAT 1 satellite communications terminal allowing the pilot, using the Iridium system, to communicate with any operating base or intelligence source located anywhere in the world, the company said.
