TeleCorp PCS

TeleCorp PCS Inc. hired Raul Burgos as vice president and general manager of its Puerto Rican operations. He most recently served as general manager and vice president of operations for Nextel International Inc. in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He is a 10-year veteran of telecommunications.

Aeris

Aeris Communications Inc. named Peter F. Stone chief financial officer. Stone will oversee all financing for Aeris. Prior to joining the company, he was a partner at the law firm of Cooley Godward L.L.P.

Aeris also named Patricia E. Hart vice president and general counsel. Previously she was vice president and general counsel for Multicom Publishing Inc. and senior attorney for Tandem Computers.

Americom

Americom Wireless Services announced Bob Gay is the new director of sales for the company. He will be responsible for leading all sales and new business development functions for Americom. Gay joins Americom after three years with LCC International, where he held several management positions, most recently as the vice president of sales and operations. Gay also has worked for MCI Communications Corp.

Cellular One

Mark Scofield, current vice president and chief operating officer, has been named acting president and chief executive officer of the company in San Francisco. Scofield, with the company since 1995, replaces Susan G. Swenson, who left the company to become president of Leap Wireless International Inc.

Allied Tower

Former LeBlanc Communications Inc. Vice President of Sales Dennis Harward joined Allied Tower as sales account manager. Harward has more than 25 years of experience in the wireless telecommunications industry, with more than 13 years specifically in the tower industry.

ICO

ICO Global Communications appointed Chris Brockbank regional marketing director for North America. Based in Washington, D.C., Brockbank will be responsible for directing the development of ICO’s commercial products and services for the North American market, including pricing, customer service, customer care, billing, technical support and service solutions. Prior to joining ICO, he was director of marketing for Mobility Canada and held several management positions with Bell Mobility.

Daniels & Associates

Patty Bowman Cosby has been promoted to assistant controller at Daniels & Associates. She will be responsible for all aspects of accounting, cash management and benefits. Cosby joined the company in April 1994.

PCIA

The Personal Communications Industry Association appointed Harold Salters director of government relations. Most recently, he served as director of regulatory affairs for AMNEX Inc. and for 11 years, he worked as a telecommunications specialist at the law firms of McDermott, Will & Emery, and Keller and Heckman.

PCIA also announced former Miami Dolphins’ head coach Don Shula and world heavyweight boxing champion George Foreman will share strategies for “Winning in Sports, Winning in Business,” during the Sept. 24 SuperSession at PCS ’99 in New Orleans.

Crown Castle

Crown Castle announced the new vice presidents and general managers for the joint venture regions. The team will be responsible for establishing and managing sales, construction and operations for their respective regions, as well as creating solutions to meet the needs of both carriers and communities.

Jim Donahue is vice president and general manager for the eastern New England region, including eastern Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Maine. He has more than 13 years of telecommunications real estate and construction experience, and played a major role in the buildout of Bell Atlantic Mobile’s northeast market.

Bob Ackerman is the vice president and general manager of the western New England region, including western Massachusetts, New York, Vermont and Connecticut. Ackerman previously was the deputy commissioner of New York State Housing. He will manage New York’s real estate assets for wireless telecommunications purposes.

Tod Bettenhausen, vice president and general manager of eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, previously was Crown Castle’s vice president of business development. He also has worked for Bell Atlantic Mobile, where he was responsible for the expansion and improvement of the infrastructure network.

Varinia Paige is the vice president and general manager for the Washington, D.C., and Baltimore area. She has worked within the real estate and development business for the past 13 years.

Brian Fovel became the Southeast vice president and general manager, responsible for North and South Carolina. He joins Crown Castle from RCC Atlantic Long Distance, where he was vice president and general manager of the team that started the company’s facility-based long-distance business.

Larry Hughes is the vice president and general manager of the Southwest region, overseeing all of the West Coast areas until other regional offices are established. He has more than 17 years of experience, most recently as director of engineering for Cellular One’s southwest operations.

CEMA

Scott McNealy, chairman and chief executive officer of Sun Microsystems Inc., will deliver the executive perspective keynote address at the 2000 International Consumer Electronics Show, Jan. 6-9 in Las Vegas, announced the Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Association. McNealy co-founded Sun in 1982 and became CEO in 1984. In his address, McNealy plans to offer his views on the state of the industry, the new model of information access and how this will change the consumer electronics industry.

AMSC

American Mobile Satellite Corp. appointed Brian Nimmo vice president of marketing. Nimmo previously was senior vice president of sales and marketing at Information Analysis Inc. Before that, he co-founded and served as president of Sage Alliance Inc., an information technology company.

Harris Wiltshire & Grannis

Harris Wiltshire & Grannis L.L.P. said former Federal Communications Commission Chief of Staff John T. Nakahata joined the law firm as a partner on July 1. Nakahata was chief of staff to FCC Chairman William Kennard from November 1997 to November 1998, and was senior adviser to former FCC Chairman Reed Hundt from January 1995 to November 1997. Nakahata also served for five years as a legislative aide to Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-Conn.), where he was subcommittee staff director on the Senate Committee for Governmental Affairs.

AMTA

The American Mobile Telecommunications Association elected seven new members to its board of directors, each of whom will serve three-year terms.

The new directors include Leo Fitzsimon, Nokia Corp.; Jim Hopper, Megahertz Tech Inc.; Ralph Haller, Fox Ridge Communications; Robert Shiver, Intek Global Corp.; Catherine Leonard, Comtronics Corp.; Scott Weisenburger, Creative Airtime Services L.L.C.; and Alan Van Velkinburgh, Houston 2-Way Radio.

Bart Fisher of Fisher Wireless Communications and Russ Miller of Russ Miller Rentals also were re-elected as chairman and vice chairman, respectively. Steven Fulford, president of ComSpace Corp., and Bob McGowan of Fleet Talk Partners were elected secretary and treasurer, respectively.

Ensemble Communications

Ensemble Communications Inc. announced Thomas H. Jones, founder and former chief executive officer of WNP Communications Inc., has accepted the position of chairman of the board of directors of Ensemble.

The company also appointed Jim Barry vice president of operations, where he will develop and manage Ensemble’s manufacturing operations including subcontractors, as well as supplier, material and quality initiatives. He previously spent 18 years at Motorola Inc.

William Simpson became vice president of customer support for Ensemble. He previously was director of the network, San Diego region, for GTE Wireless where he was responsible for managing the deployment of Code Division Multiple Access sys
tems in the area.

SnapTrack

Dr. Norman F. Krasner, vice president of technology for SnapTrack Inc., was honored with the Institute of Navigation’s Thurlow Award for his work as the chief architect of SnapTrack’s personal location system, which marries the strengths of global positioning system satellites with the wireless network. Krasner holds degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University in electrical engineering, and has earned 10 patents in the area of wireless-aided GPS, with several more pending. The Thurlow Award is presented annually in recognition of outstanding individual contributions to the science of navigation.

Vince F. Hendrick was hired as senior vice president of sales and marketing for Chadmoore Wireless Group Inc. Hendrick worked at Vanguard Cellular Systems for the past 13 years, where most recently he was the vice president of strategic programs.

Paradigm4

Paradigm4 named J. Bruce Boisture chief executive officer and president. He also will serve as co-chairman. Prior to his appointment, Boisture served as president of the venture capital firm Trinity Capital Alliance Inc.

CTIA

The Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association elected Peter Mannetti, president of U S West Wireless, to its board of directors. At U S West, Mannetti is responsible for developing the overall strategic direction for U S West Wireless, including sales, marketing, customer service, network and new product development.

Sprint PCS

Jerry Seay was promoted to director of business sales, from area marketing manager, for Sprint PCS. In his new role, he will direct activities of the business sales force in southeast Michigan and will develop short- and long-term plans to achieve budget objectives.

John Welsh was promoted to indirect business account executive from the indirect account group. He is responsible for identifying and negotiating new business contracts and supervising marketing support and sales training. Prior to joining Sprint PCS in 1997, he worked as direct sales manager for Coca-Cola Co.

Sprint PCS promoted Tony Smith to major account executive from account executive. He will coordinate, execute, prospect, consult, sell and develop business accounts in local markets. He has five years of wireless sales and marketing experience.

Heather Bupp was hired as advertising and promotions manager. Her responsibilities include developing and managing all advertising, promotions and customer communications and sales materials for Sprint PCS at the local market level. She previously was with Creative Solutions, Dextor, Mich.

PageMart

PageMart Wireless Inc. announced Doug Glen rejoined the company’s executive management team as vice president of corporate development. He will oversee new business development. In his previous tenure with PageMart, Glen was a vice president and division manager. Glen is moving from PSSI, a technology company that develops personal security and safety systems, where he was chief operating officer and executive vice president.

Doug Krump, executive vice president of strategic business units, resigned to accept a position with another company.

Alltel

Alltel named John Chapman vice president and general manager of its southeastern North Carolina operations. He will manage operations in Wilmington, New Bern, Fayetteville, Jacksonville and other North Carolina-area Alltel locations. Chapman also will oversee eight retail stores. He previously served as director of customer service for Alltel’s North Carolina and South Carolina market areas.

Corsair

Corsair Communications Inc. named Howard Green director of corporate communications. He will manage all advertising, corporate communications, investor relations, public relations and trade shows. Prior to joining Corsair, Green was director of corporate communications for Cell Computing Inc.

Ortel

Ortel Corp. elected Stephen R. Rizzone chairman, president and chief executive officer. Formerly the president and CEO of NetVantage Inc., Rizzone also has held positions in marketing, sales and general management with Retix, Make Systems, 3Com Corp., Bridge Communications and Timeplex.

Leap Wireless

Leap Wireless International Inc. promoted Steven J. Caliguri to vice president of joint venture operations. Formerly the senior director of strategic marketing for Leap, Caliguri is responsible for Leap’s operating companies in Chile and Argentina. Before joining Leap in 1998, Caliguri was senior director of product management for the Code Division Multiple Access infrastructure division of Qualcomm Inc.

GTE Wireless

GTE Wireless named Ben Kahrnoff, previously vice president of distribution, vice president of sales. He will be responsible for retail, commercial and indirect sales, sales support, national sales and data sales for the company’s 17-state territory. Kahrnoff joined GTE in 1984.

Qualcomm

Qualcomm Inc. appointed David J. McDowell senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing for Qualcomm consumer products. This adds consumer products marketing responsibilities to his previous role as senior vice president of sales. Prior to joining Qualcomm in 1996, McDowell served as chief operating officer of Japan Radio Co. Inc., as well as COO of NovAtel.
