MANCHESTER, N.H.-Transcept Inc., previously the telecommunications business unit of Sanders, announced last week its inception as an independent, privately held company.
Transcept’s focus is on offering equipment that helps carries deploy and improve their networks while building fewer towers by using surplus bandwidth on cable, fiber and microwave networks. While a part of Sanders, Transcept introduced a PCS-Over-Cable system that consists of wireless antennas that hook into existing cable lines.
“Our systems are uniquely positioned to capitalize on the needs of the wireless telecommunications market,” said Steven Johnson, president and chief executive officer of Transcept. “Our ability to quickly and cost effectively extend, or cover gaps in a service provider’s existing network-without the red-tape often associated with erecting transmission towers-is a big plus for wireless operators.”
Transcept said it plans to expand its existing Code Division Multiple Access product line to support additional transmission protocols, frequency bands and transport media. Fiber and microwave versions of the company’s flagship PCS-Over-Cable system already are being marketed, and Time Division Multiple Access designs are in development, said the company.
Transcept also is evaluating products that enable wireless Internet and data communications.
