LONDON-British Telecommunications plc and AT&T Corp. said they are jointly buying a 33-percent stake in Canadian operator Rogers Cantel Mobile Communications for $937 million.
BT and AT&T also announced BT will acquire a 9-percent stake in AT&T Canada by acquiring for $401.6 million 30 percent of AT&T’s current 31-percent stake in AT&T Canada.
The transactions will result in bundling and joint marketing of fixed and mobile services for business customers, as well as deployment of mobile office services, the companies said.
The deal marks the second major joint investment by BT and AT&T since the pair last year proposed their $10 billion global venture. The companies made a joint investment in Japan Telecom earlier this year.
