Aeris
Aeris Communications Inc. added to its senior management team, naming Peter F. Stone chief financial officer and Patricia E. Hart vice president and general counsel.
Aeris also announced Douglas M. Pavicich is its new director of operations. Pavicich will oversee all the day-to-day operations and network management. He is a co-founder of Corsair Communications Inc. in Palo Alto, Calif.
Metricom
Metricom Inc. appointed James Wall chief financial officer, where he will be responsible for the financial management of the company, including accounting treasury, cash and investment management, corporate asset management and investor relations. Wall comes to Metricom with 28 years of experience in finance management. He previously served as treasurer and controller of AirTouch Communications Inc.
Metricom also appointed Bob Schellman to senior vice president of network operations and services, and Bill Walker to vice president of network operations. Schellman has 25 years of telecommunications experience, most recently with UUNET/MCI WorldCom. He will oversee the deployment of Metricom’s 128 kilobits per second mobile data network, slated to begin commercial delivery next year. Walker was the vice president of network operations and telecommunications for SkyTel Communications Inc., where he was responsible for network expansion, support and monitoring.
Americom
Laura McGrath joined Americom Wireless Services as vice president of human resources. She joins Americom after 13 years with McCormick & Co. Inc., where she managed all areas of the HR department. At Americom, McGrath will lead all human resources-related functions, including employee relations, training and development, employee communications and compensation and benefits.
PrairieComm
Jordan Roderick was appointed to PrairieComm’s board of directors. Currently the executive vice president of wireless products and technology for AT&T Wireless Services Inc., Roderick brings nearly 20 years of experience to the board. At AT&T, Roderick has overall responsibility for product development, technology development, terminal equipment, information systems and several other functions.
Wildfire Communications Inc. named John VerMeulen to vice president, worldwide sales. He will oversee the company’s sales efforts in North America, Europe, Latin America and the Asia Pacific. Prior to joining Wildfire, VerMeulen was the vice president of international sales and service for Centigram Communications Corp.
CenturyTel
Mike Maslowski joined CenturyTel as senior vice president and chief information officer. He brings 30 years of experience in the industry, having held positions with Illinois Bell, AT&T Corp. and Lucent Technologies Inc. He will be responsible for all information system activities for CenturyTel.
Cable & Wireless
Cable & Wireless plc said Susan Cottam is its new director of corporate communications. Cottam will cover media and public relations, corporate events and sponsorship, community investment and corporate publications for Cable & Wireless worldwide. She previously worked as the director of public relations and public affairs at the banking group, Barclays plc.
Centigram
Centigram Communications Corp. appointed Michael van Noorden the new managing director for Centigram Europe Ltd. Previously, van Noorden spent six years with Lucent Technologies Inc.’s Octel Messaging Division as European sales director. He will be responsible for Centigram’s operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Centigram also hired Rebecca Etheridge to marketing manager for the same region. She previously worked at Lucent’s Octel Messaging Division as well.
Nextel
Timothy P. Enright joined Nextel Communications Inc. as general manager of the Philadelphia market. Enright will have primary responsibility for Nextel’s overall sales and operating performance throughout the Delaware, Lehigh and Susquehanna Valleys, southern New jersey and the state of Delaware. Prior to the appointment, he served as regional director of business sales for Sprint PCS, where he was in charge of development and growth of the business sales channels in Boston, New York and New Jersey, among other regions.
Corsair
Corsair Communications Inc. named Howard Green director of corporate communications. Green will direct management of all advertising, corporate communications, investor relations, public relations and trade shows. Green had worked for Cell Computing Inc. as its director of corporate communications.
Omnitel Pronto
Omnitel Pronto’s chief operating officer, Vittorio Colao, was named to the company’s board of directors. Paol Galli was named Omnitel’s new chief operating officer. Galli joined Omnitel in 1994 as assistant to the chief executive officer and became Omnitel’s director general for central Italy in 1995.
US Unwired
US Unwired promoted Carlo M. DeLeon to prepay manager. He will facilitate the ease of airtime purchases, prepaid issues, prepaid research and product development. Previously the business development coordinator for US Unwired, DeLeon joined the company in 1993.
LHS
LHS Group Inc. announced its executive vice president and chief financial officer, Jerry Braxton, will retire, effective at the end of the year. Peter Chambers will assume the role of executive vice president and CFO on Sept. 7. Braxton will continue to serve on LHS’ board of directors.
Alamosa PCS
Alamosa PCS appointed four new managers and a regional operating officer to oversee the expansion operations of Sprint PCS wireless service into Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona and Utah.
Jerry W. Brantley is the new regional chief executive officer of the company. He will oversee the Sprint PCS launch and operations in Laredo, El Paso, Amarillo, Midland and Odessa, Texas, as well as in Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Las Cruces, N.M. Brantley formerly was general manager of the Hicks & Ragland Engineering Co. Inc. Strategic Group.
Pam Porter will oversee the Sprint PCS launch in eight markets, including Farmington and Gallup, N.M.; Flagstaff and Prescott, Ariz.; and Grand Junction and Pueblo, Colo. She previously was the regional manager for PrimeCo Personal Communication’s south central Texas market.
Gil Lopez is the new general manager of operations for the Laredo, Texas, market. Formerly the owner/operator of GL Communications, Lopez has started two communications firms.
Nancy Sullivan will lead the El Paso region as general manager. She will oversee Alamosa PCS’ operations and the Sprint PCS launch in El Paso, Texas, and Las Cruces, N.M.
Margaret Z. Couch will oversee operations in Midland, Odessa, Lubbock, Amarillo, Abilene and San Angelo, Texas, as Alamosa PCS’ west Texas division general manager. Couch had her own human resources, management and sales training consulting firm.
TeleData World Services
TeleData World Services Inc. named its president and chief operating officer, Anthony W. Cullen, to chief executive officer. Prior to joining TeleData World Services, Cullen served as president and chief operating officer of Cellular Directory Corp. and as director of operations and affiliate relations with ReadyCom Inc.
Spectrian
Chris Tubis joined Spectrian as executive vice president/general manager for its semiconductor business unit. Tubis previously was with National Semiconductor, where he held the position of vice president responsible for the design and manufacturing centers of the wireless business unit. He has more than 25 years of experience in the semiconductor industry.
Wavespan
Wavespan appointed James G. Regal president and chief executive officer. Prior to joining Wavespan, he was vice president of sales and marketing for Verilin
k. Regal also served as vice president of national sales for Network Equipment Technologies, where he was responsible for all North American sales activities.
Anadigics
Glenn Frase
r joined Anadigics in the newly created position of vice president of RF standard products. Fraser will lead this new product line, which initially will focus on developing standard radio-frequency integrated circuits for the wireless handset market. Most recently, Fraser was the director of the wireless business unit for Fujitsu Microelectronics Inc.
VimpelCom hired Jo Lunder as chief operating officer, effective Sept. 1. Lunder presently is chief operating officer at Telenor Mobile, where he has held several upper-management positions since joining Telenor Mobile in 1993.
Incode Telecom Group
Incode Telecom Group announced Robert Sanchez is the company’s new executive vice president. Sanchez has more than 17 years of telecommunications industry experience. He will oversee all company efforts from La Jolla, Calif., focusing on troubleshooting and optimizing Code Division Multiple Access cellular, personal communications system and satellite wireless networks. Prior to joining Incode, Sanchez was the senior director of the Globalstar System Integration and Worldwide Test Program for Qualcomm Inc.
ATIS
The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions elected SBC Vice President Ross Ireland to the position of second vice chairman. Ireland replaces Fred Fromm of Siemens Information and Communications Networks. Ireland is the vice president for network planning and engineering for SBC Operations Inc.
AMTA
The American Mobile Telecommunications Association Inc. promoted Jill M. Lyon to senior vice president for regulatory relations and deputy general counsel. Lyon formerly was vice president for regulatory relations. She will be responsible for AMTA’s regulatory information activities and internal legal needs. She chairs the association’s regulatory forum and coordinates AMTA’s work with the Federal Communications Commission, Congress and other government agencies.
Wireless OnLine
Wireless OnLine Inc. appointed Greg Oslan president and chief executive officer. His primary responsibilities will be to establish and direct a growth strategy for the company’s smart antenna and receiving systems, and to expand the company’s product and services into the Internet data communications market. Oslan formerly was the chief operating officer for CNET Inc. and he also worked 10 years at Ameritech Corp.
