SkyTel Communications Inc. introduced two new pagers branded by strategic partner eBay, an online trading and auction service firm, as part of a new paging service called “eBay a-go-go.” The new service allows eBay members to receive auction information on any SkyTel pager. One pager is a Motorola Inc. Wordline FLX, while the other is made by Cirkisys. Both function as normal SkyTel pagers as well.
Adtran Inc. announced a contract with Bell Atlantic Corp. to provide its Network Equipment Building Standards Level 3-compliant dual T1, license-free radio, called Tracer. “Bell Atlantic has identified Tracer as a solution for certain last-mile deployment requirements,” said Tom Stanton, general manager of Adtran’s Carrier Networks Division. Adtran’s Tracer uses spread spectrum microwave technology to deliver dual T1 capacity at up to 30 miles, point-to-point. Tracer also operates license-free in the 2.4 GHz Industrial, Scientific, Medical band, said the company. Bell Atlantic will use Adtran’s Tracer for wireless voice and data transmission.
Teligent Inc. launched in Detroit its SmartWave broadband service, which offers small- to mid-sized businesses savings up to 30 percent on local, long-distance and high-speed data and Internet access services, and offers network capacity of up to 45 megabits per second, said the company. The Detroit market brings to 30 the total number of markets where Teligent service is available.
Wireless MD Inc. said it formed an agreement with SkyTel Commun-ications Inc. for a nationwide two-way medical information delivery solution called HEALTHeLINK. According to the agreement, Wireless MD will provide nationwide interactive medical data retrieval to medical practitioners, with SkyTel providing the airtime. The solution will use Motorola Inc.’s PageWriter 2000X two-way device, loaded with proprietary software from Wireless MD.
GoAmerica Communications Corp. said it now supports instant POP3 e-mail access for the Inter@ctive 950 pager and BlackBerry service from Research In Motion Ltd.
