CROWN CASTLE TO BUILD ONE 2 ONE NETWORK IN N. IRELAND

WARWICK, United Kingdom-Castle Transmission International, the U.K. subsidiary of Crown Castle International Corp., said it is working in cooperation with One 2 One on plans for a mobile network in Northern Ireland.

Under terms of a preliminary agreement, CTI will design the One 2 One network, including all cell planning, transmission planning and site identification. CTI and One 2 One expect to sign an agreement for the full construction of the network by October.

Under terms of that agreement, CTI is expected to provide collocation facilities for One 2 One at about 100 existing CTI sites; provide build-to-suit facilities for One 2 One at another 150 to 200 sites, using existing radio sites wherever possible and actively sharing these sites with other operators; and fully manage the design, construction and installation of the entire network, including backhaul transmission links.

CTI said it anticipates the network will cover approximately 90 percent of the population of Northern Ireland by October 2000.

One 2 One, which has more than 2.6 million subscribers, is in the process of being sold to Deutsche Telekom by its parents, Cable & Wireless plc and Media One International.
