MELBOURNE, Fla.-Interoperability testing between AirNet Communications Corp.’s base station subsystem and a Lucent Technologies Inc. mobile switching center was successfully completed and will be deployed by Carolina PCS I Ltd. Partnership, said AirNet.
“This highlights the power of the open GSM interface,” said Dr. Lee Hamilton, president and chief executive officer of AirNet. “The fact that the testing only took two weeks and was completed with nothing more than a little fine-tuning shows how easily the AirNet BSS can be interfaced with any GSM-compliant switch.”
The Carolina Phone System will deploy AirNet’s new AdaptaCell software-defined broadband base transceiver station in densely populated areas, while remaining cells will be configured with AirSite backhaul-free base stations, said the company.
Glenn Ehley, AirNet vice president of sales and marketing, said the AirNet BSS interface gives companies a clear migration path to third-generation technology.
