SAMSUNG, SPRINT DEBUT CDMA DUAL-BAND INTERNET PHONE

KANSAS CITY, Mo.-Samsung Telecommunications America and Sprint PCS introduced the Samsung SCH-3500 dual-band Code Division Multiple Access phone and announced an agreement, valued at up to $500 million, in which Samsung will deliver SCH-dual-band/dual-mode series phones to Sprint PCS during the next year.

The SCH-3500 features a minibrowser that allows users to view select text versions of popular Web sites via the Sprint PCS Wireless Web, as well as check e-mail and receive short messages, including news and information updates. The phone also can be used as a wireless modem for Internet or corporate intranet access through a laptop, Palm computing device or handheld computer, said the companies.

The Samsung SCH-3500 is titanium-colored and provides voice-activated dialing, voice memo, voice mail, caller ID, three-way calling and call waiting, in addition to its Internet, e-mail and voice features. The phone, packaged with a standard lithium-ion battery and desktop charger, carries a suggested retail price of $150.
