The Edge Consultants, an affiliate of agency.com, released a Wireless Application Protocol browser for handheld computers running either Palm Computing or Windows CE operating systems, called WAPman.
Lucent Technologies Inc. said it completed the first call on a prototype wideband radio platform designed to help network operators increase the call-carrying capacity and data speeds of digital wireless networks that use Time Division Multiple Access technology. Lucent will display the Flexent wideband radio prototype at World Telecom ’99, Oct. 10-18 in Geneva, Switzerland.
ADC Telecommunications Inc. said VoiceStream Wireless chose its Metrica/NPR network performance management solution. The Metrica/NPR solution manages Global System for Mobile communications network performance by storing large volumes of performance measurement data and providing daily, weekly and monthly reports on a range of operating parameters. VoiceStream also chose ADC’s Metrica/Web to enable employees in different locations to share access to performance information via intranets, said ADC.
Widcomm Inc. said it made available its protocol software suite based on the Bluetooth wireless communications standard, which it said could quicken time to market of other Bluetooth components.
Cerulean Technology Inc. said it joined the Wireless Application Protocol Forum. “As a member, we intend to draw on our knowledge and practical experience in delivering mission-critical wireless information to mobile workers to support driving future WAP guidelines,” said David Rosi, vice president of marketing at Cerulean.

PageMart Wireless Inc. announced that Samsonite Corp. will offer both advanced and traditional paging products and services in the new Samsonite@work retail stores. The stores carry various business travel products such as handheld computers from Hewlett Packard and maps from Rand McNally, as well as travel kits, luggage and other travel essentials.
