MONTREAL-Ericsson Canada Inc. said it will invest $196 million and create 130 new engineering positions during the next three years to develop third-generation wireless solutions.
As part of the initiative, Ericsson Canada launched its new 3G laboratory and test bed. The Next Generation Systems Lab will be used to conduct applied research on 3G technology, said the company.
The lab initially will serve as a window for Canadian businesses and universities to partner with Ericsson to develop applications, said the company.
In related news, Ericsson Canada announced Telexis Corp. signed an agreement with the company to test and demonstrate a Telexis wireless video monitoring application using wideband Code Division Multiple Access technology and data rates up to 50 times the speed of current technologies. Trials will be performed at Ericsson’s Next Generation Systems lab in Montreal.
