Authentix Inc. will begin final carrier testing on SimplySay 1.0, its voice-activated e-mail and wireless portal system, the company said. The system allows users to access their e-mail via any telephone and hear text-to-speech translations of their e-mail messages.
The Telecommunications Industry Association adopted a new wireless location standard, IS-801, which allows the use of global positioning system technology to locate wireless phones, according to SnapTrack Inc. The standard will serve as the benchmark for the Code Division Multiple Access industry as it deploys wireless location technologies, the company said. Ellen Kirk, vice president of marketing and strategic planning at SnapTrack, said the standard represents a year of work by several participants. The work on the standard is expected to lead to similar standards for the Time Division Multiple Access and Global System for Mobile communications industries, she said.
Lightbridge Inc. said Aerial Communications has deployed Lightbridge’s Retail Management System in nearly 100 of its stores, helping Aerial to streamline retail processes, manage inventory and costs and analyze channel performance to improve overall customer satisfaction. Aerial is the first Global System for Mobile Communication client for Lightbridge’s RMS, the company said.

AirNet Communications Corp. announced it entered into an agreement with Symmetry Communications Systems Inc. to jointly provide a GPRS/EDGE solution for Global System for Mobile communications operators. AirNet and Symmetry will jointly offer AirNet’s base station subsystem and Symmetry’s universal wireless server GPRS support node, the companies said. Dr. Lee Hamilton, president and chief executive officer of AirNet, said the agreement will allow the two companies to offer a clear migration path to third-generation technology.
