SANTA BARBARA, Calif.-Cisco Systems Inc. and Software.com, a developer of carrier-scale Internet infrastructure applications, announced a joint-venture initiative the companies said will jump start the convergence of Internet Protocol networks and wireless networks.
Software.com will provide infrastructure for storing and forwarding messages, regardless of device, media or content.
“This joint initiative with Software.com will help integrate data, voice and information services over a single Internet-based network and jump start a new category of Internet-based wireless services for service providers,” said Don Listwin, executive vice president for Cisco’s service provider and consumer line of business.
