Tower companies late last week made several announcements:
Nextel Communications Inc. signed a master lease agreement with Crown Castle International Corp. to collocate on 1,264 wireless sites owned by Crown Castle in the United States. The agreement represents annualized leasing revenue for Crown Castle of between $23 million and $27 million.
Crown also will provide installation services for the sites.
Nextel earlier this year sold its tower portfolio to SpectraSite Communications Inc. and contracted with the company for 1,700 build-to-suit sites over the next five years.
Tim Donahue, Nextel’s president and chief executive officer, said the agreements with Crown and SpectraSite are complementary and further its current buildout strategy.
Clear Communications Group Inc., a company which provides an engineering and construction services, acquired TWR Telecom and McKenzie Telecommunications Group Inc.
TWR Telecom includes several divisions, including TWR Lighting. The agreement provides Clear Group with a presence in the Southwest region and adds construction crews, skilled engineering and equipment optimization and maintenance services, said the company.
MTG provides site development, technical and construction services.
Mike Riley, president and chief operating officer of Clear Group, said the acquisitions extend the company’s geographic reach as well as its scope of services.
SpectraSite Communications Inc. is expected to announce plans to acquire 94 towers from Global System for Mobile communications provider DigiPH PCS. The sites are located in Florida, Alabama and Louisiana.
The transaction would be valued at more than $36 million, or roughly $392,000 per site.
