ALEXANDRIA, Va.-The Personal Communications Industry Association’s Paging Technical Committee announced it adopted the Wireless Communication Transport Protocol for immediate implementation in North American messaging networks.
“WCTP is intended to provide a clean interface between handheld wireless messaging devices and the Internet,” said Jay Moskowitz, chief technology officer of RTS Wireless. “A wireless developer with access to common XML development tools can easily implement a sophisticated interactive wireless application using WCTP.”
The committee also agreed to adopt the upcoming Push Access Protocol standard developed by the Wireless Application Protocol forum. Support for the Push Access Protocol will allow Internet content developers to deliver their services to advanced pager and mobile handset users, in many cases using a single interface, PCIA said.
