BUENOS AIRES, Argentina-GTE Corp. and Lucent Technologies Inc. said they signed a multimillion-dollar contract for Lucent to provide a personal communications services network based on Code Division Multiple Access technology to GTE PCS S.A., GTE’s Argentine subsidiary.
GTE said CDMA technology will allow it to add capacity and offer new features such as text messaging and Internet-based content to mobile devices.
Under terms of the contract, Lucent will provide mobile switching centers, PCS Minicells and power systems. The contract also calls for installation of a wireless intelligent network software platform that allows value-added services.
GTE won one of two 40-megahertz PCS wireless licenses for Buenos Aires in June. The company also holds wireless licenses in the interior of Argentina.
