SINGAPORE-Motorola Inc. took another step in providing Internet capabilities for wireless phones with the first demonstration in Asia of General Packet Radio Service using the Wireless Application Protocol over Global System for Mobile communications networks.
The demonstrations took place in Singapore using test frequencies from the Telecom Authority of Singapore and showed Motorola’s capabilities in GPRS. The company delivered a complete end-to-end solution using the company’s GPRS handset technology with WAP applications; an Internet protocol-based GPRS network infrastructure solution using routing technology from Cisco Systems Inc.; and complete billing and maintenance solution for GPRS network operators.
