Nextel unveils i700plus

RESTON, Va.-Nextel Communications Inc. announced its third Internet-ready phone with the introduction of the i700plus. The Motorola Inc.-manufactured phone includes digital cellular capabilities, text/numeric paging, Nextel’s digital two-way radio and contains a Web browser for future access to Nextel Web-based services.

The phone weighs 10.2 ounces with a standard nickel metal hydride battery, providing up to 65 hours of standby time or up to 240 minutes of talk time. In addition to silent alerts, alternate phone lines, three-way calling, missed call indicator and one button dialing, the i700plus also has rubber grips for added protection.

“Up-to-the-minute communication is critical for all field force workers as well as members of our Nextel Builders Network,” said Tom Kelley, executive vice president of marketing and strategic planning for Nextel. “The i700 plus is the first industrial-strength technology solution designed to help meet the multiple communications needs of builders, developers, contractors and field workers in general.”

Nextel Builders Network uses Nextel Direct Connect to communicate instantly with other businesses in the building/construction industry within their home market area, according to the company.
