SAN DIEGO-Leap Wireless Communications International Inc. announced it reached definitive agreements to acquire personal communications service licenses in Denver and Pittsburgh for its domestic subsidiary, Cricket Communications Inc.

The acquisition, subject to Federal Communications Commission approval, will add approximately 5 million potential customers to Leap, bringing its total potential customer base to more than 29 million people.

According to Leap, Cricket service allows subscribers to make calls with a wireless phone from around their metropolitan area for one flat rate.

“Cricket service is designed to appeal to people who never thought they could afford the luxury of a mobile phone,” said Susan Swenson, president and chief operating officer of Leap and president and chief executive officer of Cricket. “With a simple, affordable service like Cricket, we believe wireless will become the way people from all walks of life stay in touch throughout the day.”
