SAN FRANCISCO-The auction for Internet domain name “wireless.com” officially closed Jan. 31, but lack of serious interest is keeping the auction open indefinitely until a reasonable offer is accepted.
Alex Sepehri-Nik, chief executive officer of SiteJockey.com, the broker for the auction and domain name, said he has been getting offers in the tens of thousands-not millions-of dollars from multibillion dollar corporations.
The lack of financial enthusiasm from bidders comes as quite a surprise to the San Francisco-based broker. Sepehri-Nik at one time estimated the “wireless.com” name could fetch more than $15 million, a figure partially based on the $7.5 million “business.com” netted in December.
He said SiteJockey.com is currently in negotiations with two companies, and indicated their bids are around $1 million-the minimum bid SiteJockey.com set for wireless.com when the auction first opened.
