RESTON, Va.-American Mobile Satellite Corp. announced a marketing alliance with Critical Path Inc. for wireless e-mail services and also released fourth-quarter financial results.
Critical Path is an Internet messaging and collaboration solutions company. According to the agreement, the two will connect AMSC’s network to Critical Path’s e-mail servers, allowing some 11 million Critical Path customers to receive e-mail on eLink wireless devices.
In addition, AMSC reported a consolidated net loss of $179.4 million, or $3.70 a share, compared with a loss of $37.4 million, or $1.16 a share, for the same quarter the previous year. Much of the loss was blamed on a $97.4 million charge incurred as a result of a revaluation of its satellite infrastructure.
The results were slightly weaker than analysts expected, but did not result in a lowering of their Strong Buy recommendations. SkyTel, an MCI WorldCom Inc. company, is expected to launch its nationwide advertising campaign this week in support of its agreement to resell the eLink service.
