SCC announces Phase I 911 rollout

BOULDER, Colo.-SCC Communications Corp. announced an aggressive deployment schedule for its Phase I wireless 911 service with more than 1,000 public safety answering points scheduled for deployment in 18 states throughout the year.

Denver and Colorado Springs, Colo.; Atlanta; Indianapolis; Minneapolis; Chicago; Houston; and Portland, Ore., are scheduled to receive Phase I wireless 911 service during the course of the year.

“SCC has recognized a 157-percent growth in our subscriber base with Phase I wireless emergency 911 service since this time last year,” noted Barbara Winters, vice president and general manager of SCC’s wireless operations.

Under Federal Communications Commission Phase I rules, PSAPs are granted immediate access to the wireless caller’s 10-digit call-back number-critical information if the call is disconnected or interrupted. The PSAP must also be notified of the location of the cell site that received the call so the operator can dispatch the nearest emergency assistance.
