NEW|ORLEANS-GTE Telecommunications Services Inc. said it has purchased the Jambala Mobility Gateway from L.M. Ericsson to complement its Interim Standard-41 to Global System for Mobile communications message conversion, which is part of GTE TSI’s GlobalRoam solution.
With this acquisition, GTE TSI now provides one-stop shopping for a total solution for inter-standard international roaming, with the added benefit of giving wireless operators the flexibility to choose their own overseas roaming partners, said GTE.
In a separate roaming-related announcement, GTE TSI announced the commercial availability of prepaid roaming from Latin America to North America.
GTE TSI also said it has received a contract to supply selected BellSouth Wireless Services markets with INPosition, its new wireless enhanced Phase I 911 solution.
Finally, the company announced it has formed a strategic business relationship with Telenetics Corp., Lake Forest, Calif., to use the strengths of both companies to offer state-of-the-art, cost effective wireless data offerings, including telemetry services. GTE TSI’s Service Control Point will service as the Signaling System 7 gateway for data communications between remote AirWave devices and the Telenetics Wireless Data Network Control Center.
