WASHINGTON-The Telecommunications Industry Association was invited by the Federal Communications Commission to study digital wiretap solutions for packet-mode technology and report on its findings.
TIA sent out letters of invitation on Feb. 25 to organizations that have the capability to provide packet-mode communications expertise for a digital wiretap-related Joint Experts Meeting to be held May 3-5 in a location to be determined.
The JEM will assist TIA in preparing a report by Sept. 30 on the technical and privacy concerns associated with lawfully authorized electronic surveillance under the 1994 Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act.
FCC digital wiretap guidelines have been challenged by the telecom industry in a federal appeals court.
