PARIS-Nortel Networks announced that U.K. operator One 2 One recently signed a series of orders valued at $100 million for expansion of the carrier’s national Global System for Mobile communications network. The orders include General Packet Radio Service equipment for commercial launch later this year.
Nortel will supply and install more than 1,000 new GSM 1800 base stations for One 2 One, including SDH transmission equipment for interconnection.
The vendor was chosen as the exclusive provider for the roll out of base station equipment in Northern Ireland. One 2 One also placed an initial order with Nortel for GPRS core network infrastructure for deployment beginning in early April.
