Finland

L.M. Ericsson will supply a fully integrated solution for a third-generation Global System for Mobile communications system, including the company’s General Packet Radio Service system, to Finish operator Alands Mobiltelefon Ab. The contract includes a mobile network solution integrating GSM and 3G with Ericsson taking a turn-key role in all systems integration of the network covering the island of Aland and its 26,000 inhabitants.

China

Digital Microwave Corp. reported it received additional orders valued at $5.5 million from two companies in China for its Altium and Spectrum II microwave radios. The orders, from China Unicom Guangdong Branch and China Mobile Chong Qing Branch, will be used for Global System for Mobile communications cellular network expansions and are scheduled for delivery by the end of the month.

The Netherlands

Brightpoint Inc.’s Dutch subsidiary, Brightpoint B.V., entered into an agreement with Dutchtone N.V. to provide a variety of services to the Dutch telecom operator. The Brightpoint services include management of after-sales returns, integrated logistics services and accessories sales for Dutchtone’s direct sales channel. Financial terms of the agreement were not released.

Venezuela

Nokia Corp. agreed to supply a Global System for Mobile communications 900 MHz network in Venezuela to Elca, which offers public rural telephone services through satellite connections in the eastern part of the country. Nokia will provide Elca with a GSM 900 network including the company’s Mobile Switching Centers, base stations systems and the NMS network management system, as well as implementation, network planning and customer service. The network, the third GSM network operating in Venezuela and the second supplied by Nokia, will initially provide rural coverage in the eastern region of the country.
