Worldwide semiconductor sales increase in February

SAN JOSE, Calif.-According to the Semiconductor Industry Association, worldwide sales of semiconductors totaled $14.5 billion in February, an increase from $10.9 billion during the same period last year.

Asia Pacific and Japan led all regions with 45.4-percent and 42.5-percent growth respectively. The European market saw a 25.1-percent increase, followed by the Americas with a 24.7-percent increase.

“The year-to-year growth of semiconductor sales indicates a strong 2000 for the chip industry,” said George Scalise, president of SIA. “We expect this year to be another good year for our industry and the continued expansion of communications networks and the Internet will provide broad product growth for all chip sectors including Digital Signal Processors, Standard Cell, [Dynamic Random Access Memory], Microprocessors, Flash and Telecom Analog.”
