The Personal Communications Industry Association said it will make some key announcements next week regarding association membership and its trade show, which it renamed last month PCIA GlobalXChange.
PCIA President Jay Kitchen has promised a number of announcements in the coming months concerning membership and exhibitors from the Internet and computing world, a segment the association as a whole has decided to heavily target.
This new direction comes when key vendors and carriers are leaving the association. Moreover, the majority of vendors operating in the United States, such as Lucent Technologies Inc. and Nokia Mobile Phones, announced plans to forgo exhibiting at September’s trade show in Chicago. PCIA hopes its repositioning efforts can woo back the traditional wireless companies that have left.
Nortel Networks and L.M. Ericsson appear to be close to coming back to the show, sources close to PCIA say. However, both companies say they still are evaluating the opportunity. The manufacturers say their decision to exhibit at the show depends on whether their customers will flock to Chicago.
