Further Korean consolidation on hold

South Korean mobile phone carrier Hansol M.com said talks to sell a controlling stake in the company to either Korea Telecom or the LG Group had broken down. The problems centered around differences over prices, according to press reports.

Both Korea Telecom and the LG Group have mobile affiliates.

The companies had been in discussions since March. Bell Canada and American International Corp., both Hansol shareholders, are interested in selling their stakes, the reports said.

Korean wireless carrier SK Telecom acquired Shinsegi Telecomm last year, spurring speculation about continued consolidation among mobile firms in preparation for third-generation license awards later this year.

Both SK Telecom and Hansol shares have declined sharply during the past few months.
