Motorola develops Enhanced Service Negotiation

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.-Motorola Inc.’s Network Solutions Sector developed a dual-mode Enhanced Service Negotiation that it says will provide wireless operators the flexibility to override the mobile’s preferred programming mode to 8 Kbps enhanced variable rate coder.

“The primary intent of this feature is to provide additional enhancement to the existing service option negotiation functionality provided by Motorola,” said Neal Campbell, director of product management for NSS’s Code Division Multiple Access systems division.

Motorola noted the new solution will allow for migration to EVRC with no hardware upgrades and allows operators to take advantage of the 8KEVRC system, which supports up to 100 percent more capacity than a 13K vocoder CDMA system with the same number of cells, without reducing voice quality.
