Surf unveils networking software

TERADYON, Israel-Surf Communications Solutions Ltd. unveiled a software product that enables wireless equipment manufacturers to provide converged internetworking solutions for their network service provider customers.

According to Surf, the new SMP-SoftWire product was developed from the company’s previous experience implementing its wireless-to-public switched telephone network InterWorking Function software solution for wireless infrastructure manufacturers.

“Wireless networking has become an enormous sector within the emerging telecommunications infrastructure,” said Oren Somekh, vice president of research and development for Surf. “As initiatives such as the Third Generation Partnership Project, 3GGP2 and 3GIP are under way, there is a massive global effort aimed at providing seamless transport of new wireless capabilities over other networks such as IP and PSTN.”

Surf noted that among the protocols incorporated in SMP-SoftWire are fax adaptation protocols GSM 3.45 and 3G TS 23.146, customized cellular V.90 modem pools for High Speed Circuit Switched Data and enhanced data rate EDGE/EHSCSD channels.
