TUCSON, Ariz.-Sprint Corp. launched its second broadband wireless market in Tucson, Ariz.
Sprint initially deployed its Broadband Direct service in Phoenix at the beginning of May. The multichannel multipoint distribution service network provides an always-on connection with downstream burst rates up to 5 Megabits per second and typical download speeds of up to 1-2 Mbps, Sprint said.
In connection with the announcement, Hybrid Networks Inc. said its fixed-wireless modem and router products have passed an initial system acceptance milestone in connection with Sprint’s Phoenix deployment.
Hybrid said it has received orders from Sprint for fixed broadband wireless access equipment totaling $7.5 million since May 1.
“Our success in Phoenix sets the stage for Sprint’s continued deployment of our fixed broadband wireless systems,” said Michael D. Greenbaum, president and chief executive officer of Hybrid Networks.
