Conductus tests ClearSite in 3G environment with KDD

SUNNYVALE, Calif.-Superconducting wireless systems manufacturer Conductus Inc. reported that the first third-generation field trial of its ClearSite system demonstrated reductions in the effects of interference on 3G base station performance, as well as improvements in coverage, capacity, bandwidth, handset power and bit error rates.

During the trial, completed in cooperation with KDD Corp., KDD R&D Laboratories Inc. and Hitachi Ltd. in Japan, the ClearSite 3G system successfully filtered out the interfering signals, increased base station sensitivity and restored the cell site to its target coverage, capacity and bandwidth, according to Conductus.

“This field trial validates our prediction that 3G networks, all of which will use various versions of wideband [Code Division Multiple Access], will be even more sensitive to interference than currently available [second-generation] CDMA networks,” said Charles Shalvoy, president and chief executive officer of Conductus. “This field trial is of significance as it represents Conductus’ first 3G field trial and, to our knowledge, the first announced 3G superconductor system level field trial in the world.”
