Qualcomm unveils chip for Internet applications

TOKYO-Qualcomm Inc. unveiled a digital chipset and system software solution that it said facilitates development of Code Division Multiple Access handheld devices suitable for wireless Internet services and applications.

The Mobile Station Processor 1000 solution is a microprocessor system designed to perform the functions associated with personal digital assistant applications and is intended for either stand-alone PDA implementations or as a companion processor to a variety of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies’ Mobile Station Modem chipsets.

Qualcomm also announced adoption of its Compact Media Extension Musical Instrument Digital Interface-based multimedia software by most of the Japanese handset manufacturers for use on Japan’s cdmaOne networks.

The software uses a MIDI-based time coordination scheme to synchronize music, text and graphical data for wireless handsets, according to Qualcomm.
