BEDMINSTER, N.J.-Verizon Wireless introduced a wireless Internet service called Mobile Web, featuring the ability for users to create custom home pages.
Subscribers can configure a personal home page by dictating which text message alerts they wish to have sent to their phone, as well as the Internet information listed on the screen, the company said. Users provision the custom page from either a PC or their Internet-enabled handsets via the MyVZW.com site, which was built on InfoSpace Inc.’s wireless Internet platform.
Verizon customers can add the Mobile Web service to any digital service plan for $7 a month, using their bundled minutes for both voice and Web services plus 100 message alerts at no extra charge.
Verizon has made content agreements with 32 Web-based providers to offer such services as e-mail messaging, headline alerts, sports scores, weather forecasts by city, financial information, shopping services, calendar and address book functions, entertainment content and travel information.
Branded content providers include E*Trade, Fidelity Investments, ABC News, ESPN, Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Vicinity BrandFinder, Hollywood.com, Ticketmaster and Go2 Online, among others.
The carrier said it plans to add location-specific services soon.
The Mobile Web service will be rolled out on a market-by-market basis, beginning in 26 major cities this week and extending to an additional 11 markets next week and continuing in the upcoming months.
