BELLEVUE, Wash.-Western Wireless Corp. signed a definitive agreement to purchase the Arizona 4 and California 7 markets from Centennial Communications Corp. for approximately $202 million.
The two rural service areas are contiguous to each other and are located in southeastern California and southwestern Arizona, sharing a border with Mexico. The markets cover approximately 311,000 potential customers.
Western Wireless said it would change the service in the markets to the Cellular One brand name.
Centennial said it plans to use proceeds from the sale in its larger clusters in the Midwest, Southeast and the Caribbean.
