I3 Mobile Inc. opened a development center in Dallas focused on WAP, speech recognition, location, m-commerce and advertising applications. The facility will serve as the company’s research and development hub.
ESPCard Inc. introduced its M-server Infrastructure, which it said enables m-commerce applications more quickly than other solutions. ESPCard offers the server on a pay-per-hit basis application service provider model as well as licensing the solution for clients to host on their own.
Wireless data technology and services enabler JP Systems Inc. formed a strategic alliance with Engage Media, a division of Engage Inc., to advance mobile advertising in the business-to-business and consumer markets. The agreement will integrate Engage Media’s advertising networks with JP Systems’ wireless enablement services. The two companies also will develop technology ensuring the delivery of permission-based targeted advertising to wireless devices, including cell phones and personal digital assistants.
Xcelerate Corp., a wireless Internet solutions company, has partnered with Aether Systems Inc. to deploy Aether’s ScoutWare product suite. Xcelerate also will be a preferred solutions partner to Aether, offering its application development and strategy services.
WebLink Wireless Inc. posted a net loss of $25.3 million, or 63 cents per share, for the second quarter. Net loss for last year’s second quarter also was $25.3 million, with per-share loss totaling 54 cents. Net revenues were $62.3 million, compared with $61.5 million last year, while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization were $12.1 million, compared with $10.5 million last year. The company reported 52,512 two-way subscriber additions for a total of 146,809 customers. Average revenue per unit fell to $13.66. Traditional paging units fell by 106,789 to 2.5 million, and ARPU was $8.36.
Go2 Systems Inc. has partnered with Visto Corp. to allow users of Go2’s global addressing and locator system to create Visto accounts with e-mail, calenders, address books and file storage.
