Small office employees to generate $20B in annual service revenues

BOSTON-Very-small-office employees will generate $20 billion in annual service revenues for wireless companies this year, according to a report by Strategy Analytics.

The report, “Very Small Office Wireless Opportunities,” noted that 29 percent of U.S. cellular subscribers are employed in VSOs, and that these 30 million users represent an important subscriber segment with distinct wants, needs, desires and willingness to pay for value-added wireless services.

“As a category, VSO users will almost certainly be early adopters of features which will help them gain time and speed of decision making,” explained David Kerr, vice president of wireless services at Strategy Analytics. “VSO segment users have already started to displace landline telephony in both the office and residential domains.”

The report showed that Nokia Corp. and Motorola Inc. enjoy the highest penetration among this segment at 27 percent and 23 percent respectively, with both companies perceived to be the style and value leaders among the VSO user segment.

The report also showed that talk time and price are the primary decision variables for handset purchases among the VSO segment, with step-by-step directions, unified messaging and voice command access to e-mail messages as the top features sought by VSO segment users.
