DULLES, Va.-America Online Inc. has added its vast array of content and services to OmniSky Corp.’s wireless Internet access solution, allowing OmniSky users to access AOL wireless content and services on mobile devices.
This includes such features as AOL e-mail, instant messaging, news, weather and stock quotes. In addition, AOL customers adopting the OmniSky Wireless Internet solution will gain full wireless access to their existing AOL features. They also may choose to sign up for a special AOL-customized version of the OmniSky solution, which includes direct links to AOL services and content through AOL icons on the OmniSky home page.
As part of the announcement, AOL has made a minority equity investment in OmniSky.
Also, AOL has added AT&T Wireless Services Inc.’s Digital PocketNet to the services carrying its AOL mobile content and services. The deal allows AOL to have the top placement in the Portals channel of the AT&T Digital PocketNet service premium offer. This allows AOL users to get their e-mail, news, weather stock quotes and some content from AOL brands like Digital City, MapQuest and MovieFone.
Sprint PCS was the first to introduce AOL mobile services on its Wireless Web network.
