Rohm to hire 400 additional IC designers

TOKYO-Rohm, the largest specialist maker of custom integrated circuits, decided to increase the number of its IC designers by 400 by 2003, to cope with rapid expansion in demands for custom ICs, the firm said on Sept. 15.

According to the firm, the new IC designers will be allocated to Rohm’s four technology centers in Japan and two overseas centers. The firm currently has 600 designers.

The firm decided to strengthen its work force partly because demand for mobile communications devices is expected to continue to increase rapidly and partly because the devices have become more complicated and sophisticated, so more technical people are necessary.
