New York Times launches WAP-based news service

NEW YORK-The New York Times Co., through its New York Times Digital Internet division, launched NYT Mobile, a global, 24-hour news, information and entertainment service built using WAP technology.

The company said the offering will provide daily top stories, international news, political news, technology news, business and financial news, sports news and book reviews from NYTimes.com. Users can also access movie reviews and best seller lists that are updated weekly, and test their skills with daily trivia quiz features.

In addition, The New York Times Co. announced that Sprint PCS is the first U.S. service provider to offer the NYT Mobile content on its wireless Web browser. The New York Times menu will be located in Sprint’s “News and Weather” category.
